Wood and Steel Rapping Iron or “Whomper”

Description

This is a wood and steel wrapping iron. I came up with it working with a willow basket weaving instructor that wanted a rapping iron that would not damage the bark. The hole in the back of the handle is to straighten the willow  rods. This rapping iron weighs about 1 pound.

I use Hardwood and steel when making this tool. I plow out the center and put in a steel backbone this way some weight is added,  and the steel never hits the bark.

After epoxying in the steel backbone I then cut and shape it by grinding the steel cutting band saw so that there is a handle on this rapping iron or Whomper.

After developing this wrapping iron I needed a name for it and I came up with Whomper in reverence to the Whomper Willow in the Harry Potter series
